UCHL1
The protein encoded by UCHL1 (Ubiquitin C-Terminal Hydrolase L1) is a thiol protease belonging to the C12 family of peptidases that hydrolyze peptide bonds at the C-terminal glycine of ubiquitin. So far UCHL1 has been shown to be specifically expressed in neuronal and neuroendocrine tissues within humans. Mutations to this gene are associated with Parkinson’s disease.
