Specifications

Ataxin-3 (MJD1, SCA3) is a josephin domain-containing protein that functions as a deubiquitinase in vitro. It mediates the cleavage of long polyubiquitin chains while it has weak or no activity against chains of 4 or less ubiquitins. Ataxin-3 is the disease protein in spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 and plays a role in protein homeostasis maintenance, transcription, cytoskeleton regulation, myogenesis and degradation of misfolded chaperone substrates.
